Dear Royle Families,
Looking for something to motivate your child to read during this unexpected break? Royle Elementary School is holding a voluntary Read-A-Thon, Thursday, March 19th – Thursday, April 2.
We’re asking all Royle parents, caregivers, friends and family members to encourage your child to read a little extra while we’re out of school. All books read count towards tallied minutes- so have fun swapping books with neighbors and siblings. If you are short on books, remember, you can use your library card to get free eBooks from the Darien
Library www.darienlibrary.org and Barrett Bookstore in town are offering many ways to help you get books.
Click this Read-A-Thon link to find a reading log and sponsor form to help keep track of your child’s progress. Donations from reading sponsors will be collected based on the total amount of minutes read or a flat fee. Suggested amounts will be 10 cents to 25 cents per minute.
All proceeds go to the PTO budget which helps support our teachers and our enrichment activities. Completed forms and collected donations will be due the week we return to school. If you prefer, collected donations can be charged to your Pay4schoolStuff account.
Simply visit www.pay4schoolstuff.com log in, select your student and chose “Read-A-Thon” from the available options. You can then charge the donations to your credit card.
Encouraging your child to read will produce lifelong rewards including speech development, communication skills, enhanced self-esteem, and improved memory and focus. Studies show that children who read 20 minutes per day are exposed to 1.8 million words a year and are more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests. Plus, it’ll occupy some of their time.
If our Royle Readers reach 100,000 minutes read, every student will be able to celebrate with a popsicle party in school!
Thank you in advance for your participation!
